Fun Fishing Pond
Our Bait Fishing Pond is open on weekends 9:30am-4pm. Stocked with our specimen rainbow trout, the pond offers enjoyment for all of the family, whether you have fished before or not.
If you don’t have your own rod, we have everything available to hire from the shop. Never fished before? One of the team will be happy to demonstrate how to use the rod correctly and get you on your way to catching a fish. All fish caught must be killed and paid for at our standard rate. Please refer to the FAQ’s below for more info.

Anglers are given a 2hr slot, we currently offer; 9:30am-11:30am; 11:30am-1:30pm; 2-4pm. Last admission is 3pm.

Yes. Bait rods are available to hire from the tackle shop for £7. This also comes with a small pot of bait (sweetcorn, worms & or power bait), dispatch kit (priest and forceps). A max of 2 people sharing a rod. If the rod is seen to be used irresponsibly you will be charged again for the 2nd.

Yes, you need a rod fishing license for England and Wales if you’re fishing for trout with a rod and line. Licenses can be purchased at https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence
Children under 13 do not need a license, but you’ll need to get a junior license for children aged between 13 and 16. Junior licences are free.
Carers accompanying someone who is fishing do not need a licence unless they’re fishing themselves.

Group bookings are very welcome, however you must book in advance to ensure we can accommodate your party size.

We highly recommend reserving a slot, especially during the school holidays or if you’re travelling a distance. To book please email with which date and time slot you’d like to fish, and how many will be fishing.
For health & safety reasons, we are only able to accommodate a certain number of anglers at once. If we’re at capacity and you’ve not booked, you may be turned away.
For larger groups of 4 of more, reserving a slot is essential.

Yes you’re welcome to bring your own bait fishing rod. We charge £4.50 entry for BYO. **IMPORTANT** We do not allow spinners, lures, fly fishing or rod rests on the bait pond. If in doubt, please ask.

Yes absolutely! We’re big on getting the younger generation into fishing, making the bait pond a great place to start, and experience catching your first fish. A member of the fishery team will be happy to demonstrate how to use the fishing rod, and get you on the way to catching a trout.

Fun Fishing Rules
Our rules exist to safeguard our fish stocks and to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and safe visit. Please read these rules carefully before fishing.
Children under 13 do not need a rod licence, but those aged between 13 and 16 will need to get a FREE junior license, purchasable online before fishing. Anglers aged 16 and over must hold a valid rod fishing licence. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences for more information and to purchase. Please be prepared to present your license to the Environment Agency Officer in the event of a random inspection.
Any hire equipment used carelessly, lost or broken will be charged for.
A maximum of two people sharing a rod on the Bait Pond.
As a recommendation, we advise that all children use sunglasses or protective eyewear. Weather-appropriate attire is recommended.
All fish caught on the Fun Fishing Pond must be killed and paid for at our going rate of £4.50 per lb. Anyone caught returning fish to the pond will be asked to pay for the fish, and banned from the fishery.
The use of fishing lures and maggots is forbidden on the fun fishing pond.
Anyone caught throwing bait into the pond will be asked to leave immediately, without a refund.
Children under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult when fishing at New Mills, unless a responsible adult has signed a waiver form to leave them unaccompanied. These are available from the tackle shop. New Mills Trout Fishing Park takes no responsibility for minors under 18 left unaccompanied on-site.
We provide pre-treated nets free of charge for use onsite (no need to dip). If bringing your own landing nets, they must be dipped prior to fishing in the blue box located opposite the tackle shop.
Please take all litter and discarded line home with you, or dispose in the provided bins onsite (a fishing line bin is located outside the tackle shop).
We are a dog-friendly site, but kindly ask that they are kept under control and on a lead at all times.
No alcohol or drugs, we reserve the right to ask anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs to leave with no refund and banned.
The Fishery will accept no responsibility for any damage to vehicles or loss from vehicles left on fishery property, however caused.
The Fishery will accept no responsibility for any damage or loss to any personal belongings.
